Chachapoyas is a beautiful town in an extraordinary part of the world. Though remote from Lima and the amenities of city life, the city rests in striking surroundings and provides easy access to many local wonders. In fact when in Peru one is never far from a rewarding trip or excursion. The people of Chachapoyas are another excellent reason to visit this off-the-beaten path spot. Very kind, very generous. You will have to become the world's friendliest alien to properly acculturate yourself but it will likely be worth it. If you make an effort to meet people and speak Spanish you'll go far. There are few other cities in SAmerica where you will feel as comfortable and safe as in Chachapoyas.
As for the school, though not perfect and not as professional in terms of standards one might expect from a US or European equivalent, these differences will not prevent one from having a truly positive and rewarding experience. The Peruvian teachers I met were all very professional, courteous, friendly, and hospitable. No classroom will be perfect but compared to US students mine were very willing and polite. Many cultural customs and assumptions will prove challenging but if you commit yourself to learning and keep an open mind they will prove interesting if occasionally awkward or annoying.
In short, I recommend ILC for the opportunities it provides both inside the school and in the region. You can be a traveler there and not merely a tourist.
